Mycology supplies for the eager home grower with no experienceEveryone has to start someone and we are here to help you do just that! Our mushroom growing kits are the perfect introduction to mushroom growing. They are typically the first mushroom-related growing situation people get involved with because of the ease involved. Our mushroom growing kits are 10 pounds of colonized substrate, certified organic, and ready to fruit. Once you begin using the kit you could have your first flush of fresh mushrooms within two weeks. There will be instructions with your kit, but to use the kit, simply cut holes in the plastic, mist the substrate a few times each day, maintain appropriate environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light, fresh air exchange), and your mushrooms will grow throughout multiple flushes. We currently carry 10 different mushroom species in this line of growing kits:
- Black Oyster
- Blue Oyster
- Golden Oyster
- King Oyster
- Lion’s Mane Mushroom
- Phoenix Oyster
- Pink Oyster
- Pioppino Mushroom
- Reishi Mushroom
- Shiitake Mushroom
Mycology supplies for log inoculations
Plug spawn or sawdust spawn are often used for log inoculations. However, it is important to consider some other mycology supplies that go along with the plug spawn. We have some drill bits in our online store that will help drill holes that will fit the plugs well. We have other sizes as well for using sawdust spawn inoculations. We also sell wax which is important to use to seal the holes once you have inoculated the log. Regardless of whether or not you choose to use the wax we sell in our store, it is necessary that you wax over the holes after inoculation. If you don’t, you run the risk of contamination from bacteria or other fungi that may be present on your logs. The wax creates a barrier, keeping the mycelium safe. In addition to waxing up the holes, also wax over the ends of the logs or any other location that is without bark.
