Where to buy medicinal mushrooms: Dried mushroom benefits to recognize

We sell multiple species of dried mushrooms so people can reconstitute these mushrooms at home for use in a variety of dishes.

One way to get additional healthful qualities from dried mushrooms involves vitamin D content.

Mushrooms contain a constituent in their cell walls known as ergosterol. This compound, when exposed to sunlight, is transformed into vitamin D. People can be getting higher amounts of vitamin D if they are eating dried mushrooms that have been exposed to sunlight during the drying process.

The mushrooms can be exposed to sunlight at any point to enrich the vitamin D content, including while the mushroom is in the process of drying. Even if you buy fresh shiitake mushrooms at the grocery store, you can put them in sunlight, cap down for six to eight hours for heightened levels of vitamin D. Higher levels of vitamin D is a great reason to eat more dried mushrooms, especially in the winter when people often spend less time outside in the sunshine.

We are a great resource for where to buy medicinal mushrooms like reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)

We have a lot of variety for the reishi lovers and with good reason. Reishi is a beloved medicinal mushroom that has been the target of studies in the past. For instance, according to Herbal Medicine: Biomolecular and Clinical Aspects. 2nd edition, “G. lucidum polysaccharides (GL-PSs) are reported to exhibit a broad range of bioactivities, including anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antiulcer, antitumorigenic, and immunostimulating effects.”

Furthermore, the study looks at the content of triterpenes in reishi. It states, “G. lucidum is clearly rich in triterpenes, and it is this class of compounds that gives the herb its bitter taste and, it is believed, confers on it various health benefits, such as lipid-lowering and antioxidant effects.” And that is only one of the numerous studies on reishi.

We carry an array of reishi products in our online store so our customers can get the most from reishi in the way they prefer. People who want to grow their own reishi with a growing kit can do so. The kit is 10 pounds of organic colonized substrate which will have beautiful reishi fruiting bodies in an antler shape.

Our sawdust spawn, grain spawn, and plug spawn also features reishi and can be used for inoculating logs, stumps, or supplemented sawdust. We sell Ganoderma lucidum, which prefers to grow on sugar maple, oak, and red maple.

We also have a reishi mushroom extract that is different from other reishi supplements you’ll find in the market. We only use fruiting bodies. Other reishi supplements are mycelium-based products that are grown on grain. Growing reishi on grain is good for consumption, but the efficacy of its medicinal benefits as a supplement are questionable. Furthermore, we use a triple extraction process that includes alcohol, hot and cold water. Some medicinal constituents from reishi are extracted only in water, as others are only extracted in alcohol. Using this triple extraction method allows us to get the most amount of available constituencies in liquid form for our customers.

Our liquid extracts page has other medicinal mushroom options beyond reishi as well. Other options include lion’s mane and chaga. Visit the mushroom extracts page now to see for yourself.
