Yellow Oyster Mushroom Kit
Yellow Oyster Mushroom Kit
DETAILS
You will love watching growth from this beautiful yellow oyster mushroom kit!
Each yellow oyster mushroom growing kit is capable of fruiting 1-3 pounds of fresh oyster mushrooms over the course of multiple months.
Our yellow oyster kits are great to grow indoors or outside when temperatures are appropriate. However, we do recommend using oyster kits indoors when possible, as bugs can often get to the fresh mushrooms before they are harvested by human hands.
Yellow oyster mushroom is a beginner kit of ours. Each yellow oyster mushroom kit is 6 pounds of fully-colonized substrate and certified organic.
Ideal growing conditions for the yellow oyster mushroom kit:
65 - 80 Degrees Fahrenheit, 85% relative humidity. Note that if the temperature is lower than 65 degrees Fahrenheit, then the yellow oysters may not pin. Be sure to reach at least 65 degrees for the temperature where your kit is located.
Light: Yellow oyster mushrooms need light to have some light to grow, but it should not be direct sunlight and it does not need to be a significant amount of light. You can determine if there is enough light for your yellow oyster mushroom kit to grow by considering whether or not you can comfortably read a book in the area. If you can, then the kit has enough light to produce fresh yellow oyster mushrooms.
Humidity: You should mist your kit a few times each day so it keeps the humidity level appropriate for the kit to fruit. As mentioned above, a relative humidity in the 85% range is ideal. You will see little baby mushrooms forming after about five or so days, and that is what we call the pinning stage. These baby mushrooms will continue to grow until they are full-sized and ready to harvest, which should be within two weeks of starting the kit.
If you have a difficult time keeping the humidity level where you would ideally like to have it, then there are a few options you can try. First, you can try using a plastic bag as a humidity tent. You can do this by taking a plastic bag and draping it loosely over the blue oyster mushroom kit. Make sure there is still enough airflow that the kit will receive fresh air. This is a necessary part to fruiting mushrooms.
Another option is to use a plastic tote or bin. You can place your blue oyster mushroom kit in the plastic tote with the top off. Mist the sides of the tote to keep them wet, and the bottom too if you would like. Just make sure the kit does not sit in standing water or it may lead to mold growth. Using a tote with the yellow oyster mushroom kit inside and a small fan blowing over the top of the tote has been a method many people have used to increase humidity levels indoors while using their yellow oyster mushroom growing kit.
CO2 and Airflow: The levels of CO2 greatly affect the shape of the yellow mushroom fruited bodies. You need to have fresh air flow for the mushrooms or you may end up with mushrooms that grow poorly. If you noticed the stems of your yellow oysters getting fatter and wider than the mushroom caps, then you probably need more fresh air exchange where the kit is located. This is common in situations where people use humidity tents. Adjusting the amount of airflow will help the mushrooms normalize in their dimensions.
Cutting holes in your kit: You will need to cut holes in the plastic that your yellow oyster mushroom kit comes in before you begin misting it. You can mist the substrate directly through the hole you make. We recommend using the broadside of the kit to cut the bags. The fresh mushrooms will grow towards these holes, seeking the environment of greater oxygen content.
Once the yellow oyster mushroom kit is spent you can use it to inoculate paper waste, coffee grounds, or your compost. This kit, along with the blue oyster kit, is a great introduction to oyster mushroom growing.
Eating the yellow oyster mushroom
These yellow oyster mushrooms almost look too beautiful to eat! We still think you should eat them though… We mostly recommend that people cook all of their mushrooms before eating. This allows for the mushroom’s walls of chitin to be broken down, allowing the nutrients to be absorbed by the person consuming it. The yellow oyster mushroom has a slight citrusy flavor, but may also have a hint of bitterness as well, depending on the duration of it being cooked.

Golden oyster block
This grow block, hands down is the best golden oyster kit I have ever purchased. The kit pinned the day after I opened it, and harvested my first flush 3 days latter (1.3Lbs) I also purchased several other grow kits and they also exceeded my expectations. Fungi Ally will be my first choice of grow kits and supplies
